imageWelcome to the Davis Conservation Foundation

The Davis Conservation Foundation is a public charitable foundation established in 1989 by Phyllis C. Davis and H. Halsey Davis of Falmouth, Maine,to support protection of the environment and conservation of our natural resources. The foundation was established following Mr. Davis's retirement as President and Chairman of Shaw’s Supermarkets, Inc. and has provided over $8.5 million in grants to conservation organizations since its founding in 1989.

The Davis Conservation Foundation supports charitable organizations located primarily in northern New England (Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts). The foundation infrequently makes grants to organizations located in other parts of New England and rarely to organizations located outside of New England.

The Davis Conservation Foundation’s broad purpose is to support the wise utilization, protection and advancement of our physical environment and the different natural forms of life that inhabit it, including wildlife, sea life and mankind as they are impacted by the environment. To accomplish this, the foundation is primarily interested in:

  • Projects related to wildlife, wildlife habitat, environmental protection and outdoor recreation.
  • Projects that strengthen volunteer activity and outreach/community involvement in the above-noted areas.
  • Projects related to the Northern Forest and the Gulf of Maine. Since 1995 approximately half the foundation’s grantmaking has been earmarked for these geographic regions.
